OLYMPIC AGENDA OPENING THE PARIS2024 GAMES
MAKING HISTORY ON MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS FROM GENDER EQUITY TO ACCESSIBILITY MAKING IT MORE INCLUSIVE
As the Paris 2024 Olympic Games draw closer, President Thomas Bach of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) leads the charge in anticipation of this monumental sporting event, embodying a vision of inclusivity, sustainability, and global unity through sports. With a deep commitment to achieving gender parity and fostering a sense of togetherness among the world's finest athletes, Bach sets the stage for a truly exceptional Olympic experience and celebration of sports and culture embracing youthfulness, inclusivity, urban flair, and sustainability. As France eagerly awaits the commencement of the games, it stands poised to showcase its legendary hospitality and fervor for sports to participants and spectators alike.
While this is the third Olympics hosted in Paris with the first in 1,900 and second 100 years ago in 1924, this is a special one. The stage is set for an Olympic Games marked by youthfulness, inclusivity, and urban vibrancy, underpinned by a core value of sustainability. Paris' iconic landmarks serve as dynamic backdrops for a multitude of competitions, promising an immersive experience that transcends geographical boundaries and captivates audiences worldwide. As Paris reimagines the Games to enhance accessibility and captivation, a resounding message of unity, hope, and peace resounds, uniting athletes from diverse backgrounds under the common embrace of the Olympic Village.
These collective efforts symbolize a shared dedication to openness, respect, and inclusion, inviting individuals worldwide to partake in the spirit of togetherness that defines the Paris 2024 Olympic Games -- “Ouvrons Grand les Jeux” which translates to “Let’s Open the Games.”
The Paris 2024 Olympics aims to be younger, more inclusive and accessible, and urban with millions of tickets sold at affordable prices and opportunities for public participation in various events. The Games symbolize unity, hope, and peace, bringing together athletes from diverse backgrounds in a spirit of solidarity.
This will be the first Games to be fully compliant with the reforms of the IOC Olympic Agenda enabling everyone to engage as a spectator and participant. According to the IOC, nearly nine million tickets have already been sold, including six million for less than 50 euros. The Games wanted to invite public engagement in a myriad of city-wide events kicking off with Torch Relay and Cultural Olympiad along with free fan events including road cycling, triathlon and “Marathon Pour Tous,” where 40,000 runners will take the same path hours before the Olympic athletes.
Another important milestone in equality will be reached tied to gender parity as it’s the first time in the history of the Olympic Games that the IOC granted the same number of places to female and male athletes.
The message of openness and inclusion is central to the Paris 2024 along with a celebration of sports and French culture breaking ground with the first time the Opening Ceremony is not in a stadium but a monumental activation on the River Seine.
Echoing the spirit of innovation, the Paris 2024 organizers are fundamentally reshaping the Games to enhance accessibility and offer a captivating portrayal of their city to the world. Venturing into uncharted territory, iconic Parisian landmarks will serve as vibrant backdrops for various competitions –beach volleyball at the Eiffel Tower, equestrian events at the Palace of Versailles, and urban sports at Place de la Concorde. This transformative vision underscores a bold step towards reinventing the Olympic experience and celebrating the universal spirit of sport in the heart of Paris.
